  2. Are any sites blocked from being accessed?
  3. How do I set up my browser to access the Internet?

Answers

Q: Can anyone access the Internet from the Unisa network?
A: Generally yes. However, student Lab machines and certain staff work stations are not allowed access. To remove the blocking on these tyoes of stations, the user will have to get written authorisation from their direct manager. This authorisation must be relayed to the help desk where a task will be logged for the access to be granted.
Q: Are any sites blocked from being accessed?
A: Yes, currently sites that cause a large volume of traffic and do not have a direct connection with the provision of the services rendered by the University are blocked. These currently include radio streaming and refreshing screen savers.
Q: How do I set up my browser to access the Internet?
A: No matter what browser you use, the only method available to access the Internet is to set the proxy settings to proxy.unisa.ac.za using port 3128.
